Paul Robinson is unconcerned that Leeds United hasn’t yet announced a new deal for Willy Gnonto.

The Italian attacker, who made an effort to quit the club in the summer, appeared to be close to agreeing to fresh terms to stay at Elland Road during the January transfer window. However, despite a significant comeback from the 20-year-old on the pitch, there has been no update since.

Robinson, however, is pleased with what he has seen from Gnonto on the pitch in recent weeks and believes there isn’t “anything sinister” behind the lack of an update on the talks. He suggests that if it helps fire the Whites to promotion, then the deal should follow and all parties will be satisfied.

“I don’t think there’s anything sinister that he hasn’t signed the contract yet,” he exclusively stated to MOT Leeds News. We are aware that they are in talks, but in my opinion, a lot of the credit for the player’s current level of play and goal scoring goes to the persons who helped them get there.

“The most important thing, in my opinion, is that Gnonto appears happy and content as he plays.

One of the most important things for him is that. When he’s like that, you can get the best out of him and he plays the finest football.

“So, everyone will be happy if he continues to be like that, Leeds is in the Premier League, and he signs a new contract.”

No concerns over Leeds United contract talks as Willy Gnonto plays with smile on face

Gnonto’s present contract expires in 2027 nevertheless, and the discussions aim to extend it by an additional year and raise his pay, so there isn’t much risk of losing him even if nothing is agreed soon.

As of right now, he seems to be benefiting from the circumstance, considering how much more of an asset he has become to Daniel Farke’s team since Dan James’ injury.

On the other hand, it is plausible that the improvement in his personal performance has influenced the contract negotiations; nevertheless, at this point, the talks take a backseat to the promotion, so as long as that drive continues, Elland Road need not be very concerned.
