If we all made an effort to emulate Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, I think we’d all come out on top. Since joining the Rams, Stafford has been the embodiment of the classic franchise quarterback—winning a Super Bowl, mentoring a young group of players, and handling all the off-field duties that accompany being the public face of a company. Nonetheless, both Los Angeles and Stafford, who is in his mid-30s, are aware that their centre will not be around for long. Les Snead, the general manager, might focus on the NFL Draft this year while looking for the next Stafford. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler may be the man for the job.

In light of the Rams’ 19th pick and their current competitive window, it probably makes little sense to pursue a franchise arm. Los Angeles can, however, strike a balance between winning now and tomorrow thanks to the second day of the draft. After a stellar senior season and pre-draft circuit that included Senior Bowl and Scouting Combine celebrations, Rattler’s stock is rising. Rattler discussed mimicking the Rams’ current quarterback at the latter. Rattler remarked, “He can anticipate really well, throws from all different angles, and has a great arm.” That’s what I infer from him, then.

Stafford and Rattler are similar passers. Both possess flexible arms that are ready to make deceptive shots when the situation demands it. The electrifying arm talent that made Rattler the best-rated quarterback in his recruiting class and Stafford the first-overall pick defines their play.

Los Angeles also makes sense as a landing place because of the surroundings it offers. The NFL may not offer much of an incubator, but sitting behind Stafford in his final years and having office hours with head coach Sean McVay could. Although he has the skill to take over as the starting quarterback in the near future, he couldn’t handle the controversy and pressure of being the backup to a mediocre starter. The Rams haven’t exactly been recognised for their environmentally friendly practices, but Snead is optimistic about the future, which Rattler may very well join in two months thanks to an outstanding rookie class.
