This year’s free agency class will present the Cincinnati Bengals with a number of important choices. The Bengals will need to choose which of their own free agents to attempt to hold onto in addition to deciding which outside free agents to pursue.
A number of important Bengals players are approaching free agency; while some will undoubtedly go to play elsewhere, Cincinnati should make every effort to retain some of these individuals. Here are three players that fit into the latter group.
Tanner Hudson, Tight End
With Tanner Hudson, Drew Sample, and Irv Smith Jr. all set to become free agents, the Bengals will undoubtedly need to make some offseason additions to their tight end roster. Hudson is the one they should try to hold onto out of those three.
Despite being buried on the bench early in the season, Hudson came on later in the season and still had the finest season of his career. Although he did not start the season as the team’s primary tight end, he finished with career highs of 39 receptions and 352 receiving yards.
This is not to argue that the Bengals shouldn’t try to add another tight end, either in the draft or in free agency, as they are very thin at the position and will require a few different options. However, it sounds like a decent idea to bring Hudson back, especially since it won’t be too costly to do so.
