The Forest bench, along with Evangelos Marinakis, was furious with Paul Tierney’s timekeeping following Darwin Nunez’s dramatic late goal.

After his team’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool due to a last-minute header from Darwin Nunez, Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis found himself on the pitch because he felt that the length of stoppage time extended was unfair. Following the goal, a fit of rage broke out among the home bench, and referee Paul Tierney gave yellow cards to Steven Reid, one of their coaches, and Felipe, the substitute.

Felipe and the two Forest executives were incensed that, despite having only been granted eight minutes, Jurgen Klopp’s title-chasing team scored in the 99th minute. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team had no trouble containing the Reds for the majority of the Premier League game.

Due to Ibrahima Konate’s head injury, Tierney had to halt play while the home team was having an attacking spell, which did not sit well with Forest. Play was then restarted by the man in the middle, allowing Liverpool to go up the pitch with an uncontested drop ball. Nunez eventually took the lead by heading in an Alexis Mac Allister looping ball.

Marinakis also chased Tierney down the tunnel

According to the Mirror, Marinakis had to be restrained by City Ground security after chasing Tierney into the tunnel, adding to the post-match drama. He was also on the pitch at the sound of the full-time whistle. After the game, Rob Schofield, a reporter for BBC Radio Five Live, reportedly said, “you rarely see scenes like that in the tunnel.” Schofield was inside the City Ground tunnel.

Schofield added to his report, saying: “At one point, security had to remove Marinakis. The Forest players were infuriated, and Nuno was completely disheartened. Storming past me, Jurgen Klopp said he had no idea why he was receiving so much criticism. This was where it was all really getting going. Angry moments.”

The club’s management were clearly furious with Tierney’s timekeeping, which cost them a crucial point and put them just three points above the relegation zone. As a result, the team’s standing as a relegation-threatened asset in the top division is growing.
