Diego Carlos has resumed first-team training following his recuperation, giving Aston Villa another boost during their defensive injury problem, as reported by Jacob Tanswell.
On March 5, the journalist for The Athletic announced via his X account that Carlos and Jhon Duran, another absentee, had resumed training this week.
This is in response to news that the Brazilian had sustained a hamstring injury during practice on February 14th, which raised many questions regarding the potential duration of his absence.
Villa has only preserved one clean sheet in their previous six league games and has given up six goals in their last four outings.
Positive Diego Carlos injury news emerges at Aston Villa
Villa had been dealing with a defensive injury issue of late, but with Carlos’s resurgence and Ezri Konsa’s recent return to duty following his own injury setback, their depth is looking far more robust.
Before getting hurt, Carlos had started to contribute significantly to Unai Emery’s squad. In spite of the team’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United, the defender performed something of a master class, winning six duels and making three interceptions, two blocks, and one clearance. [Sofascore]
Even though the entire squad struggled in the loss to Chelsea, he was a constant at the back, making six clearances, one block, one tackle, winning four of his six aerial duels, and completing a 91 per cent passing accuracy.
Carlos had an incredible 123 touches of the ball in the 5-0 victory over Sheffield United, completing 108 of 116 attempts at a success percentage of 93%, including 14 long passes to change the play. This passing, and the range of it, was also on display.
The defender has excelled, averaging 2.8 clearances and 3.4 ball recoveries per game. His style of play in this Villa team is demonstrated by the 2.2 duels he has won per game and the three yellow cards he has received this season. [Sofascore]
Villa’s season may be back on track with Carlos back to full training, as the returning players have helped to partially ease a defensive issue.
