Roberto De Zerbi has lately hinted at a possible departure from Brighton, aiming to win the Bundesliga, Serie A, Premier League, and La Liga titles.
Chelsea may be interested in Roberto De Zerbi if Mauricio Pochettino decides to leave Stamford Bridge, according to reports. The 44-year-old has been strongly linked to leaving the Amex Stadium this season as Brighton keeps winning in the UK and around Europe.
Despite taking over as Seagulls manager so suddenly at the beginning of the previous campaign, De Zerbi led Brighton to sixth place in the Premier League. This season, the Italian has maintained his impressive form, leading Brighton to the Europa League knockout stages.
The Seagulls are currently tenth in the English Premier League and are still in contention to qualify for Europe despite a recent spate of injuries on the south coast. According to The Guardian, Chelsea has selected De Zerbi as a possible replacement for Pochettino, who faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.
The former manager of Shakhtar Donetsk and Sassuolo has expressed his thoughts on a possible switch, although it is unclear if the west Londoners would make a play for him. When questioned in December about whether he intended to sign a new contract, De Zerbi said he was keeping his options open.
The Italian has a 2026 deal with the Amex Stadium. “We are talking about the new contract, but right now we are just talking,” he stated. We must examine the target at the end.
If the goals align with the club’s, I consider working in Brighton to be an honour. I don’t strive to get to the next level. Fixing a significant aim is vital to me.”
De Zerbi was then questioned about his future and whether he would remain with the team for the upcoming season before of Brighton’s match against Fulham at Craven Cottage last month. “I have only Brighton in my head,” the Italian stated, keeping his cards close to his chest.
“I would like to finish the season in the best way with our young players – to compete and win as many games as we can,” he stated. Indeed, I am under contract. I haven’t made any decisions. Brighton is my only priority at this time.”
De Zerbi stated that he is content at Brighton in a different interview with Sky Sports this year, although he hinted that he would be open to working for “a big, big team” in the future. “We feel we can write another chapter in Brighton’s history,” he remarked. Everyone is aware of their role, and we are doing all in our power to satisfy both the club’s employees and its supporters.
“We’ll do our best, we promise. It’s a privilege to learn that major teams are considering me. Though I am proud, my daily priorities are my work. I want to compete as best I can, so I will talk to the club and the owner about the future.
“Once I grasp the plan, working in a large team or another large team won’t be an issue. There is no set moment when you have to go compete or wait longer. I would like to compete throughout my career to win the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Champions League.”
