Daniel Farke has hinted as to which Thorp Arch’s young players might be in line for a Leeds United debut in the upcoming campaign.
With a large portion of the current team being 24 years of age or younger, the manager, who was appointed ahead of the 2023–2024 season, explained how nurturing young talent is a key component of his philosophy at Elland Road.
Two young players the Whites have promoted to the first squad and are having a significant influence on the pitch are Archie Grey and Mateo Joseph.
Farke stated, “We believe in our youth and it’s one of the cornerstones in our philosophy as a club,” in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post on Thursday, March 7. We depend on working at the highest calibre possible at the academy, so it’s critical that we do so.
Naturally, we are keeping a close watch on the situation, and we are taking great care to track the one or two players who have also captured our attention. However, I don’t want to talk about names too much since then they would carry too much weight.
“Another one of them that drew our attention is currently also somewhat hurt. I don’t want to reveal too many identities to the public, but maybe you can guess a little bit.”
Could Daniel Farke call upon his youth players at Leeds United this season?
It is quite improbable that any young players will be promoted to the senior team before the season ends, given Leeds’ present position in the Championship, five points behind league leaders Leicester City, and their upcoming opponents, Ipswich Town and Southampton.
With 22-year-old Crysencio Summerville, 21-year-old Georginio Rutter, and 20-year-old Wilfried Gnonto contributing significantly to the league season thus far, the current squad is already youthful.
When you include Ilia Gruev, Grey, and Ethan Ampadu in the mix, it becomes evident how flawlessly the Whites have performed thus far this season, maintaining an undefeated record at Elland Road throughout the campaign.
Whether Leeds are promoted to the Premier League or not, Charlie Crew, a Wales youth international, may have a chance of being called up to the senior team during preseason in front of the 2024–2025 season, according to Farke’s hint.
His absence from the Leeds U21s has been noticed, as they lost 2-0 at Leicester on Monday, March 4. He is a mainstay in the team. It would imply that the 17-year-old has been sidelined and raises the possibility that he is among the guys Farke is mentioning.
