Paul Mullin is questionable for Wrexham’s match against Morecambe, but the return of two important players from injury will give Phil Parkinson more optimism.
Consequently, what happened?
The Red Dragons defeated Accrington Stanley 4-1 at the STōK Cae Ras past weekend, capping off an excellent victory. Nonetheless, Phil Parkinson is concerned about Mullin’s availability as Wrexham looks to keep up their pace. But the boss is in for a shock since George Evans and Tom O’Connor have both joined team training and are on the roster.
PARKINSON’S MENTION
“There have been the plus points of Tom O’Connor being back in training this week, which is great for us,” Parkinson told reporters. He’s a very adaptable player, so he offers us alternatives in midfield and at the back. George Evans has made significant progress for us; he was back on the grass yesterday, and as I stand here and observe, he is currently out there. Nobody like seeing their teammates hurt, and since Tom’s injury was a broken foot, there wasn’t much we could do. It’s excellent that we could maintain his fitness levels with the Alter-G treadmill.”
But Parkinson did disclose that Mullin’s fitness will be observed, saying, “We’re monitoring Mulls because it’s something that needed to be done but we didn’t have a chance to do it with the sheer volume of games.” We will simply observe him today and tomorrow.”
THE LARGER IMAGE
The team is grateful for the recent vacation that a full week on the training field afforded, especially following a demanding schedule that included seven games in a span of 28 days. In an attempt to optimise the situation before the season’s commercial conclusion, Parkinson also made the most of it.
He remarked, “It’s been a good week and the lads that played most of those games in recent weeks have had a chance to refuel.” We’ve had time to rejuvenate ourselves, both physically and psychologically, and I’m happy with how the boys have appeared. Naturally, the guys have been encouraged by that break, and we have been prepared for it.
Next?
With three games separating them from league leaders Mansfield Town, Wrexham is in serious danger of losing ground if they are to have a chance at an automatic qualifying berth. Parkinson’s team should therefore be fired up to earn a vital win once more, this time away from home, following a commanding display against Accrington Stanley.
