Before this weekend’s Premier League match, the manager of Newcastle United provided an update.

Kieran Trippier will miss Newcastle United’s next two games, according to Eddie Howe, which means he won’t be available for the FA Cup match against Manchester City the following week.

With a calf injury sustained during last Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the right-back was substituted, and this week’s reports indicated he would be sidelined for a while. However, Howe stated at the press conference on Friday that the injury isn’t too serious and that the seasoned defender ought to return before the end of the month.

“Kieran’s injury is minor and not too bad,” the former manager of Bournemouth said reporters. “We hope he will return for the first game after the international break, but that’s not assured. The scans indicated enough to probably keep him out for the next two games.”

Trippier’s injury means he will miss the Premier League matchup against Chelsea on Monday night as well as the FA Cup trip to Manchester the following weekend. Newcastle, who eliminated the European champions from the Carabao Cup in September, will play City in the competition’s quarterfinal.

“He is eager to remain with the group despite his injury, so there’s a good chance he makes it to both games.” Before the Chelsea and City games, Howe said of Trippier, “It highlights his leadership qualities.”

The former player for Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur is anticipated to fill in at right-back in Tino Livaramento’s absence. Trippier will also be sidelined for England’s dual matchup at Wembley later this month against Brazil and Belgium due to the injury.
