As part of their ongoing recruitment of Argentine players, Inter Miami is said to have made an offer to Boca Juniors for Marcelo Weigandt, a right-back.

There are several Argentinians playing for Inter Miami, several of whom were signed recently. Naturally, in July 2023, the highly anticipated signing of Lionel Messi was finalised.

Recently, there have also been moves for young players Federico Redondo, Tomas Aviles, Diego Gomez, and Facundo Farias.

The latter was a bold move, since the MLS team defeated legendary teams Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Liverpool in the transfer process; a TEAMtalk exclusive revealed their interest.

The Boca Juniors player Weigandt is the most recent Argentine to be courted by Inter Miami, proving that the recruitment effort is still ongoing.

Cesar Luis Merto claims that the team has formally extended an offer to Boca for the right-back.

The journalist continues, saying that they are now in negotiations in front of the Argentine’s possible transfer.

Since joining Boca through their academy, Weigandt has participated in 74 games; he has three goals and seven assists.

Weigandt to replace Yedlin

Inter Miami are looking to sign him as a replacement for DeAndre Yedlin, according to Merto.

The former captain has been moved on to FC Cincinnati – Messi took over captaincy from him last season – and thus a new starting right-back is needed.

The trade brought in over $100,000 in general allocation money, and it seems that is being funnelled back into the signing of Weigandt.

That is of course if they can convince Boca into the sale, with there having been no suggestion of how the talks are going.

Yedlin raring to play alongside another Argentine

While Yedlin leaves one Argentine no.10 behind in Miami, he gets to play alongside another in Cincinnati – last season’s MLS MVP Luciano Acosta.

The right-back talked about how happy he was to be playing alongside the dynamic midfielder.

It’s fascinating. You don’t see that occur very frequently, in my opinion. It’s thrilling. It’s never happened before. This squad undoubtedly features some excellent players. We also have another unique ’10’ from Argentina, Yedlin stated at a press conference.

“I’m eager to collaborate with him and witness his capabilities.”

Acosta finished the previous season with 17 MLS goals and 10 assists. He then contributed two goals and two assists as his team was eliminated in the postseason semi-finals.

Yedlin seemed content in his new environment, playing once more with a top player. If the transaction goes too far, Miami will be hoping that Weigandt is a perfect substitute for Yedlin.
