Wales’ Wrexham (AP) — The movie Wrexham, starring Ryan Reynolds, is returning to America.
The English Premier League team Chelsea will take on the lowly Welsh club, which has achieved worldwide prominence after being acquired by Hollywood pair Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, on July 24 at Santa Clara, California’s Levi’s Stadium.
During a U.S. offseason tour last year, Wrexham also faced Chelsea and Manchester United.
Before Reynolds and McElhenney’s investment, Wrexham was a struggling non-league team. Now, their efforts have turned the team’s fortunes around. The documentary series “Welcome to Wrexham” has helped players and staff become crossover stars.
Wrexham advanced to the English fourth tier on the pitch during the previous campaign. This season, being promoted twice in a row is difficult.
