This season, injuries have not been kind to Newcastle United.

In fact, Eddie Howe has spent a large portion of the campaign without a number of important players.

Harvey Barnes has been conspicuously absent. The winger, who was signed to replace Allan Saint-Maximin in the summer, sustained a foot injury during Sheffield United’s 8-0 victory in September. As a result, he missed 27 games in all competitions.

Though Newcastle is waiting to see the best of him, Barnes has recently made a comeback and was praised as “incredible” by Howe for his goal against Luton last month.

The 26-year-old still requires time. More information has surfaced, and the guy himself has acknowledged that people weren’t fully aware of the severity of his injury.

Newcastle’s latest updates on Harvey Barnes’ injury
The Daily Mail claims that Barnes tore the ligaments beneath his big toe.

The medical staff of the club looked to other sports for additional information and possible treatment options because the ailment was so unusual that no one had ever seen it before.

There were even concerns that Barnes’ season may end, but happily Newcastle was spared.

Newcastle’s unfortunate injury record for Harvey Barnes
The circumstances surrounding Barnes encapsulate Newcastle’s terrible fate this year, in certain respects.

The forward has just once in his career missed a substantial amount of action—during the 20/21 season at Leicester, when a knee ailment kept him out of 16 games—according to Transfermarkt data.

His record of appearances was almost flawless until the beginning of his career at Newcastle.

Fortunately, he’s free for Howe again, so maybe this time lightning won’t strike twice.

It’s not shocking at all, considering the extent of his injuries, that he will require time to recover and reach his peak performance.
