David Martindale is adamant that evaluating Brendan Rodgers’ second spell at Celtic is premature.

As a great admirer of his Hoops rival, Livingston manager Martindale believes the Parkhead Treble champion should wait at least a year before his comeback is considered a success. In today’s Scottish Cup quarterfinal, Celts, who trail Rangers by two points in the title race, take on Livi in an attempt to secure their first trip to Hampden this season.

The Scottish champions have had a difficult season, but Martindale thinks Rodgers needs more time and money. Judge Brendan after three or four windows, and it’s his own squad, he added.

“Brendan is his own manager and should only be evaluated in hindsight, but Ange Postecoglou left behind a very strong team. In addition to competing in the Scottish Cup, he is contending for the league.

“Everyone will have a phase similar to this. Has it improved Brendan’s managerial skills? He’s a coach who has won a triple crown, therefore I think it has. I truly love his company when we go to Parkhead and I respect his thoughts on football. He is a superb boss in addition to being a good individual.

“However, I have no illusions about how difficult it will be. What others say about Celtic and the story line don’t concern me. They still have a strong team and manager.

“Just take a peek at what they have in the bank; the club’s operational strategy is excellent. Celtic is one of the best-run teams in Scottish football, often turning a profit and taking home championships.”
