After his West Ham team was denied a crucial late penalty for the second time in a week, David Moyes was infuriated once more.

Lucas Paqueta and Danny Ings’ goals helped the Hammers overturn a 2-0 deficit at halftime to tie Burnley 2-2 in the Premier League on Sunday.

However, Moyes believed that when Clarets player Sander Berge headed onto his own arm late in the game, his team should have had a chance to win all three points from the penalty.

The incident happened only four days after the Hammers were refused a penalty in the last seconds of their Europa League first-leg loss to Freiburg. As a result, they will need to overcome a 1-0 deficit in Thursday’s home leg in order to advance to the quarterfinals.

“Sander Berge attempts to head the ball ahead of him, but it hits his arms,” Moyes stated. This midweek, we made a decision quite similar to that. Today, there were numerous rulings that were decided against us.

Let me tell you, you don’t jump with both arms in front of your face since you can probably only head it back that way. We have to do better than that.

“How many individuals catch the ball with their heads? Most likely, the response to that would be zero, or 0.1%.

“So, I’m saying, why wouldn’t you be punished if your arms are in the wrong place and you push against it?”

Moyes also expressed his dissatisfaction with referee Darren England’s overall performance. Before Ings equalised, he also had an attempt disallowed due to the closest of offside calls against Michail Antonio during the build-up.

“Today’s decisions went so badly against us—the goal was offside,” Moyes continued.

“There’s one when Jarrod Bowen is onside when the linesman raises his flag in the first half. The protocol is meant to be that you wait until he’s got to be certain he’s offside, even if he wasn’t. He doesn’t. He immediately raises his flag, which I have witnessed, and he is in agreement.

“Today, there were a number of decisions that really worked against us.”
