Sam Morsy, the captain of Ipswich Town, has said that his team will put in a lot of effort to win back after losing to Cardiff City 2-1.
After a fierce duel in a game with little opportunities, Kieffer Moore gave the Blues the lead with just over ten minutes remaining. But deep into stoppage time, they gave up the lead, and they lost in the Championship for just the sixth time this year.
After the game, Morsy commented, “We worked hard to take the lead, but unfortunately we couldn’t hold it.”
“It’s unfortunate that we gave up two goals, but that’s the nature of football. We’ve emerged victorious from several late games, and that may occur when one isn’t fully focused, which we weren’t in the last moments.
“Obviously, there is a lot going on in the game, but we thought both goals should have been scored a little bit better. We’ll get better, take what we learned from it, and bounce back stronger.
It’s only a few moments. There weren’t really any opportunities for them; we just needed to handle the specifics better in those two instances.
We’ll reflect on it and make improvements. We have always bounced back from setbacks better.
The home crowd started to disperse from the stadium as the clock approached full time. At that point, Morsy said that he also believed it to be over, as did everyone else.
Town would have been optimistic that they could win outright even after eight minutes of stoppage time was declared. Although they’ve done it a lot in the past, mostly on the road, this was a bridge too far.
Morsy conceded, “You have to go to the last whistle.” Plus, there are moments in games. Nobody is going to roll over for us because they’re having a great run of form themselves.
Although it’s not a pleasant sensation at all, it will inspire us to return stronger and better.
Rebounding will be essential. Ipswich has lost a number of games this season, and this one isn’t necessarily the last, but in a fight for promotion as intense and cutthroat as this one, Town needs to keep up the performance levels that have brought them this far.
Morsy argued, “We’ve been doing that for a couple of years now.” That actually has been the catchphrase, the motto, for how you respond. Even though today isn’t our day, we’ll work hard, pick ourselves up, make improvements, and go over it.
“We’ll take care of everything. This won’t be one of those situations where we say, “That’s one of those things.” We’ll put in a lot of effort to make it better and, perhaps, return stronger.
An important feature of the match was the away support. 3,200 fans made the lengthy trip to South Wales for a midday kickoff, with many of them departing before 6 am on the day of the match. Despite the squad’s late collapse, they supported the team and created a lot of noise while huddled in a corner behind the goal.
Once again, amazing support, said Morsy. You can see how much they help us at the end. Even though we lost and gave up two late goals, they are still very supportive of us.
Honestly, it’s extra motivation. You turn to check how far behind both the team and the players they are.
“You can be sure that as a club, we’ll keep working to improve and see where we end up.”
