By signing Joelinton to a contract that will see him spend the latter years of his career on Tyneside, Newcastle United knows they can win over supporters with ease.
Before Joelinton returns from his injury in May, Newcastle United is still working to convince him to sign a new deal.
After early negotiations to extend his current contract broke down earlier this year, the Brazilian has had a few quick meetings with Eddie Howe. Joelinton then sustained a thigh injury during the FA Cup victory over Sunderland in January, which required surgery for a favourable outcome.
Joelinton’s initial round of negotiations with Newcastle was abandoned because United thought his demands were unreasonable. However, the star’s agents countered that the team’s value, especially during the Howe era, was obvious to all and that his promotion to the Brazil international squad indicates he deserves to be among the highest paid players.
Howe stated on Friday: “From a club side we are desperate to keep him – we know his qualities and we know what he brings, but there has not been any major update or change.”
Granting Joelinton a new contract would not only satisfy fans but also talisman Bruno Guimaraes because of their strong relationship both on and off the pitch. Joelinton is reportedly paid £43,000 a week, but he wants to be acknowledged as one of the highest paid players in the locker room.
CEO Darren Eales and co-owner Amanda Staveley have taken over the failed negotiations that sporting director Dan Ashworth had previously led.
Joelinton’s agency ROGON will almost probably promote the midfield enforcer to the distinguished list of clubs they collaborate closely with throughout Europe if a contract cannot be reached. Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Freiburg are the three German teams in the Bundesliga that are on that list. Teams in the Saudi Pro League who can match Joelinton’s salary may also be very interested.
As Joelinton proves to everyone that he is a veteran of the English premier league, Premier League teams would also be eager to sign him.
Although he still has a year left on his current contract, the 27-year-old has not caused any trouble on the training pitch. Joelinton was also anticipating his teammates’ congrats following the crushing 3-0 victory.
