Ipswich lost to Leeds by one point after being defeated by a Cardiff goal in the 100th minute.
Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town, responded to a query regarding the altered Leeds United environment by announcing a team promotion race for the last stretch of the season.
After leading 1-0 at lunchtime on Saturday against hosts Cardiff City, McKenna’s team were poised to move back above Leeds into the second automatic promotion spot in the Championship. However, a late comeback resulted in a 2-1 loss.
With nine games remaining, the Tractor Boys’ fate of automatic promotion is out of their hands due to the reverse, which has dropped them one spot and one point below Leeds.
However, McKenna has stated that his team is taking the first season back in the second division one game at a time and is not concentrating on or considering the fight to move up.
When asked if losing in Cardiff may cost them, McKenna responded, “Who knows?” as reported by twtd.co.uk. To be honest, we’re not concentrating on or considering a race for promotions; instead, we’re just thinking on our path, the next game, and our efforts to perform as well as we can right now.
“There were certain aspects of our performance that we could have done better, but overall I thought it was a strong second half. Whether we won, drew, or tragically lost tonight, it wouldn’t affect what we concentrate on or work on at the training ground the following week.
“We will simply focus on bettering ourselves, preparing for Sheffield Wednesday next week, putting on a show, and attempting to win the next game. This will be our approach for the next nine [matches].”
