During a weekend event, Hammers icon Paolo Di Canio told supporters that managing West Ham is his goal.

One of the greatest players in West Ham’s recent history, if not the greatest, is Paolo Di Canio.

Of the Premier League era, for sure.

Di Canio spent his playing career with a number of elite clubs.

Di Canio, nevertheless, really earned his reputation at West Ham.

His influence on the Hammers will never fade. Similarly, the Italian, who has a tattoo of West Ham on his arm, was also in agreement with the club.

The feisty Italian shown that he is capable of managing teams and producing results. At Swindon, he is revered as a legend after helping the team gain promotion to League One.

Di Canio claims he only wants to manage West Ham.
Additionally, he managed to keep Sunderland from being relegated during his six months as manager of the Premier League team in 2013.

Speaking over the weekend at a West Ham fan gathering, Di Canio expressed his desire to manage West Ham in the future.

That would be ideal for West Ham. As seen in a video provided by West Ham insider Sean Whetstone, Di Canio stated at the ceremony, “For me, the only club I could choose (to manage).”

“However, if it’s not feasible at West Ham, I might move to another location and then make my way over to West Ham.” Come on, Irons, and take them to Wembley for the FA Cup!

Though David Moyes’s future is far from assured after this summer, the remarks were noteworthy none the less.

However, David Sullivan has already expressed his opinions about Di Canio leading West Ham.

Di Canio’s position was made known by Sullivan in 2013, and the Hammers’ majority owner said at the time that he would never be able to hire the renowned forward as manager.

At the time, Sullivan told The Independent that Di Canio could not be hired for the West Ham position due to his political beliefs and affiliation with a fascist Lazio fan club.

“Managers, like owners, have an additional duty to the wider community, but fascism is always intolerable,” Sullivan stated.

“For this reason, my partner David Gold and I would not consider him a manager of West Ham in the future, even though we once thought he could, unless he gave up his extreme beliefs.

Paolo di Canio is the greatest of all time among West Ham legends. He has been a huge fan of the team for many years, and every time I’ve met him, he’s impressed me with his charisma, intelligence, and extreme Italianness. I find it extremely difficult to blame him for all of these reasons, and even more difficult to accept what has happened this week. To put it plainly, Paolo should wait to manage a team until he has effectively repudiated fascism.

Hammers chief was unconvinced by Di Canio’s denial.
Di Canio did release a statement in which he made it clear that he opposes fascist philosophy.

However, Sullivan continued, saying, “If not too late, then the statement he released was overly broad. We’ll have to presume he believes fascism and football can coexist unless he clearly refutes his prior assertions. He shouldn’t have been named manager by Sunderland.

We’re not sure if Sullivan has changed his position. However, it’s safe to assume that Di Canio would not be taken into consideration under Sullivan’s supervision, even if he were to demonstrate his abilities once more and emerge as a serious candidate for the West Ham position in the future.

Di Canio played alongside some top stars during his time at West Ham.
