John Textor, a shareholder in Crystal Palace, is still the focus of intense debate in Brazil.
The cause is due to recent accusations he made, stating he has evidence of the influence on some outcomes and that there is corruption among the local referees.
That was not well received by certain clubs. particularly in light of Palmeiras, who have since declared in an official statement that they are suing Textor.
The club is now requesting documentation to support the claim made by the Crystal Palace shareholder that officials had an effect on a Palmeiras vs. Fortaleza match.
“Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras announces that it will pursue all relevant legal actions—in the civil, criminal, and sporting domains—against John Textor, the owner of Botafogo’s SAF, to hold him accountable for the careless and trivial remarks that have been made about the current two-time Brazilian champion on multiple occasions.”
Our 109-year history has been defined by morality and deference to rivals and groups. Textor should notify the appropriate authorities—including the public ones—as soon as he learns of any illegal conduct occurring in Brazilian football.
However, Textor had explicitly said that Palmeiras were not participating when he complained about that game. UOL offers these quotations regarding the subject, but they were insufficient to prevent Palmeiras from suing him.
“The match-fixing report concerns a 2022 Palmeiras match that concluded. Palmeiras does not appear to have been involved. It was Fortaleza vs. Palmeiras. I don’t know who was involved; I wasn’t. This proof was provided to the CBF.
“Those we are pursuing are not players for Palmeiras. Not a single Palmeiras player has manipulated the results of our polls conducted at Palmeiras games. As far as we are aware, neither the coach nor any member of the institution’s leadership
Local clubs are a little displeased with Textor’s behaviour since he purchased Botafogo. He talks to the media frequently about alleged corruption, albeit he hasn’t been able to provide any evidence of it yet. It was later discovered that the audio he had claimed to have of several referees was actually about a lower league game.
The fact that he is currently quite preoccupied with those matters will likely make Crystal Palace supporters happy that he isn’t causing all the commotion at their team.
