After presenting a Whites action plan, Willy Gnonto made a harsh admission and vowed to return to Leeds United.
Leeds played their third match in a row and their 16th of the year on Friday night at Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship Yorkshire derby. Goals from Patrick Bamford and Gnonto gave the Whites a 2-0 victory.
Daniel Farke’s Whites had been playing in both league and FA Cup competitions, but they were eliminated from the latter after losing 3-2 to Chelsea at the end of the previous month. Then came three more league games in rapid succession, and with seven more points, United was able to reclaim the second automatic promotion spot in the division.
With Leeds not playing again until Sunday against Millwall in the penultimate match before the March international break, Farke’s team now has the luxury of eight days off. Speaking with LUTV, Gnonto acknowledged that the last run had been difficult and that he was now glad for the respite.
Gnonto, however, stressed the need of striking a balance between play and preparation, promising that Leeds would be prepared for their return match against the Lions on Sunday, which a win might propel Farke’s team to the top. When asked if the current break was appropriate, Gnonto replied, “Yeah, I think it’s a good time.” We’ve played a lot of challenging games recently, and we have almost a week to prepare for the final game before the break. We’ll make the most of this time by working hard and, of course, relaxing a little. Before the break, we’ll be prepared for the last game.”
