This evening at 8 p.m., Newcastle United takes on Chelsea in the Premier League. Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes are still treading carefully when it comes to their disciplinary records.
With nine yellow cards for Guimaraes and eight for Gordon, the two might miss two Premier League games due to their misconduct. Ten cautions prior to matchday 32 will result in that exact punishment, per league rules.
After receiving his ninth yellow card in the 3-2 loss to Manchester City in January, Guimaraes has not been booked in the previous six games. Although the Brazilian has avoided the book of the referee, he still needs to stay out of the book for Newcastle’s next five league games.
Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, stated recently, “I think he’s managed [the threat of suspension] really well so far and has been his normal self.” I don’t think it’s possible for him to be conscious while playing, thus he hasn’t appeared to be doing so. He’s performed admirably for the squad and played with discipline.”
Gordon, meantime, has received eight yellow cards since the January 30 victory over Aston Villa, 3-1. Before Guimaraes, Gordon was the only Newcastle player to receive a one-match ban for receiving five yellow cards this season. Kieran Trippier was banned as well.
The threshold started at five yellow cards in 19 games but extending to 10 in 32.
With five bookings apiece, Joelinton and Trippier rank behind Gordon and Guimaraes; however, both players are presently out with injuries.
Dan Burn has three bookings, while Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar have four. While Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento, Matt Ritchie, Matt Targett, Lewis Hall, Lewis Miley, Jacob Murphy, and Martin Dubravka each have one Premier League booking, Callum Wilson and Sven Botman have two.
Following their match against Chelsea, Newcastle will play Manchester City in the FA Cup quarterfinals before hosting West Ham in the Premier League following the international break.
