Ipswich Town’s promotion run-in will be a tough test, according to Kieran McKenna, since many of their opponents will be vying for the top spot in the Championship standings.
The Owls have won four of their past five games, but still remain in the relegation zone. The Blues’ next game is against an in-form Sheffield Wednesday team on Saturday afternoon.
League standings can frequently be thrown out of the window as teams compete for place, so the challenges won’t get any simpler following the international break. The manager stated that his team must perform at its utmost if they were to keep their position at the top of the league during the opening of a furniture store at the FIND Food Bank in Ipswich.
He told the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, “There are so many games at this stage of the season that have extra things riding on them.”
“Well, Sheffield Wednesday is one team that is obviously struggling at the wrong end of the table, but they are also winning and playing well. They will arrive motivated, and that will be a major source of inspiration to attempt and win the division for another season.
“Alternatively, it may involve matches subsequent to that, against teams vying for promotion or the play-offs. This is the time of year when a lot of the Championship teams are playing with a lot on the line, especially given how close the bottom and top ends of the table are to each other for the top spots and play-off spots.
Every game has so much to offer so many teams, and that’s fantastic. Although we’re happy to be among the top teams in the division, we also understand that we’ll be up against some fierce football teams. On Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday will undoubtedly be that.
With six victories and just one loss in their past seven games, Town’s performance is among the best in the second division. The first team squad has been wearing thin over the past few weeks due to the demanding schedule that includes lengthy trips to Swansea, Plymouth, and Cardiff.
They may have lost steam after losing 2-1 in the Welsh capital on Saturday due to two goals scored in stoppage time. Despite acknowledging that there are some fatigued players in the building ahead of Saturday’s match at Portman Road, McKenna is sure that morale is still strong around the training field.
“It’s a pretty good mood,” he said. Naturally, we were not too happy with the final ten minutes of the Saturday game, and we have given it some thought in the past few days. You are going to have days like that throughout the course of a long season.
We’ve had a lot of good things happen to us, and Saturday wasn’t one of them, as I stated after the game.
“We are making every effort to retrieve bodies. We will work to resolve the minor aches and pains from the game throughout the week so that as many fit and healthy bodies as possible can attend and attempt to put on another spectacular show at Portman Road this coming Saturday.
“Everyone is in a great mood and excited for the weekend. On the technical side of things, we still need to recuperate a few bodies and check in on a few guys during the course of the week.
“I’m confident that we’ll have a hungry side prepared to put on a show by Saturday.”
