TalkSPORT believes that Newcastle is hoping Anthony Gordon’s knee injury is not as serious as initially thought.
The winger sustained an injury during Monday night’s 3-2 loss at Chelsea, and the club’s medical staff is still evaluating him.
Gordon, who played for only thirty-six minutes, went down and appeared to be uncomfortable while the Newcastle physiotherapist attended to him.
Newcastle supporters were alarmed to witness the former Everton player cry out in agony when the physiotherapist touched his knee.
After the game, manager Eddie Howe commented on talkSPORT, “It was a surprise.” He’s clearly fallen off… It is a knee issue.
Although the severity is unknown, it doesn’t appear good. However, it truly only makes our injury problems worse.
“Leave it to chance; I don’t believe there was a mechanism or a specific moment when he felt the injury. Let’s wait and see.”
England manager Gareth Southgate is among the those who will be keeping an eye on things.
Prior to this summer’s Euro 2024 competition, Southgate was present at Stamford Bridge on Monday night to observe the winger among other players.
Gordon is not currently regarded as an injury doubt for the Euros, according to talkSPORT; but, the Magpies have not yet received an official prognosis.
With ten goals and seven assists for Newcastle this season, Gordon has established himself as a contender for a spot on the flight.
The 23-year-old is yet to receive his first senior cap despite making multiple appearances for England at the youth level.
