Given that the deal hasn’t worked out, Ibrahim Sangaré might be regretting his choice to leave PSV Eindhoven for Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Journalist Rik Elfrink claims that the midfield player left the Dutch team with “tears in his eyes.”
After making an impression for PSV for a number of years and becoming a vital member of the team, Sangaré signed a €35 million contract to join Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Although he had long been linked to a move to the Premier League, Nottingham Forest ultimately paid a high price to get him and improve the team under then manager Steve Cooper.
Nevertheless, neither party has benefited from the agreement, since Sangaré has only made 12 Premier League appearances to date, playing in just 38% of the minutes that are available.
He hasn’t played for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team for ninety minutes since the middle of November, though that statistic is a little skewed because he missed the month of January due to his Africa Cup of Nations participation.
In any case, he hasn’t played as much as he had hoped to, and Elfrink thinks he could have regretted choosing Nottingham Forest in the first place.
He remarked, “He had such a great time here in Eindhoven.”
I was moved when I saw him after he left in August. He left this place with tears in his eyes, which I didn’t think was very remarkable. Sangaré enjoyed his time in Eindhoven personally.
“No, it did not turn out to be the ideal step as first anticipated. He belongs in the Premier League, so it’s a shame that things haven’t worked out well for him thus far.
