The players from Newcastle United don’t have time to wallow in self-pity following their loss to Chelsea.
At Stamford Bridge, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle team was utterly unimpressive, and the manager made tactical errors as well. The Magpies ended up losing 3-2 and are now 10th in the Premier League.
It was clear from their performance against Chelsea that Newcastle has turned into a bit of a soft touch. It was a very disappointing opening goal of the evening in the capital, to say the least.
After a difficult night on the road, Newcastle now faces an even more difficult opponent. The Magpies’ next FA Cup matchup is away to Manchester City, where a spot in the semifinals is up for grabs.
Eddie Howe’s team is the underdog going into the match, and following the events at Stamford Bridge, the cup tie will be even more difficult. The players, however, have already acted after considering what went wrong in their match against Chelsea.
What the Newcastle players did following their defeat by Chelsea
once losing 3-2 to Chelsea, the Newcastle players reportedly held a “mini inquest,” according to the Chronicle, once they resumed training on Tuesday.
According to the Chronicle, some players acknowledged that Chelsea could have prevented all three of their goals and that they could fix their defensive mistakes in time for their matchup with Manchester City on Saturday.
Given that Man City has far more quality than Chelsea, that will be easier said than done. Chelsea’s three goals came from individual mistakes, but they have the skill to tear us apart.
On a night that will determine the course of Newcastle’s season, similar carelessness will be punished once more at the Etihad Stadium.
The FA Cup holds great significance for the Magpies, and they have been assigned the most challenging matchup imaginable. Furthermore, it follows right after a concerning performance.
However, the Newcastle players met to talk about that performance, and they will soon have an opportunity to make amends.
