In a defiant statement, Cyriel Dessers insisted that Rangers would have a “beautiful end to the season” if they could replicate their performance against Benfica.
Last night, the Portuguese powerhouses eliminated their hosts from the Europa League at the last-16 stage, and the Ibrox striker was on the losing side. Despite the fact that the Gers lost 3-2 overall, both Dessers and manager Philippe Clement were happy with the effort the team put forth in Glasgow, both on and off the ball.
Even though they were ultimately defeated, Dessers is certain that the team can win the treble if they can maintain the same level of intensity and strength they displayed in domestic football.
“We need to feel confident now,” the Nigerian remarked. “If you can show this against one of the best teams in Europe and can bring this level, this energy and this power into the league and the cup games then I think we can have a really beautiful end to the season.”
