Alan Hutton has branded Rangers’ injury list as a “major worry” for the rest of the league season.

The Gers have been without most of their key players at one time or another this term with Todd Cantwell, Ryan Jack and Connor Goldson all suffering problems earlier in the campaign. Dujon Sterling – who had come into his own at Ibrox – and young Ross McCausland are the latest pair to be crocked, leading manager Philippe Clement to question even Michael Beale’s preparation in pre-season as a possible blame for the issues.

Now Hutton has suggested that injuries could still have a big role to play in where the league title ends up at the end of the year as they’re uncontrollable. And Gers would be in a fine position if they can keep their full squad fit and firing.

“The injury list is a major worry, not just because we’re losing both McCausland and Sterling,” Hutton told Football Insider. Rangers would have been in a great position going into these upcoming games if the entire team had been healthy.

Right now, the management has ingrained a very hard mentality. Events such as the match versus Benfica or Hibs – in past seasons, they may have faltered under specific circumstances.

It doesn’t appear to be the case, and Rangers are doing a great job at what they do. However, they are powerless over the wounds.

“Obviously, Rabbi Matondo’s return is significant, so perhaps that will lessen the load.”
