It has been an impressive season for Kieran McKenna’s men, as they have been in and around the top two for nearly the whole season. With only a few games remaining to play, Ipswich Town will hope to get over the finish line and seal that impressive promotion to the top flight. The Tractor Boys only secured promotion back to the second tier at the end of last season, and in their first campaign back, they have already made waves in their attempt to return to the Premier League.

Although the attention will be on the action on the field, it won’t be long before concerns about their plans for the summer transfer window arise.

Whatever division they play in, Ipswich will probably have a hectic schedule due to planned arrivals and departures.

Having said that, we have examined four Ipswich Town players at Football League World who might conceivably be sold this summer for a profit.

Christian Walton

Christian Walton appeared to be going to settle at a club when he only joined Ipswich in January 2022 on a permanent basis.

The 28-year-old began his professional career at Brighton, but he was on and off loans for a large portion of his early career.

He was a player for Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Luton Town, and the Tractor Boys. Walton appeared to be Ipswich’s top player for the upcoming few seasons when he signed on loan before committing to the team permanently.

Walton was so important for Ipswich in their last two League One campaigns, with him keeping 37 clean sheets in 80 appearances. The shot stopper was vital to their promotion last season, and that was expected to continue in this campaign.

All of that was destroyed by an injury sustained during the preseason, though, as Vaclav Hladky took his place in the starting lineup and he hasn’t been able to reclaim it. Walton has only made a few appearances, all of which have been in cup events.

Walton’s contract is set to expire at the end of this season, but Ipswich has the option to extend it, and they might consider doing so before trying to find a long-term buyer for the goalkeeper. It appears improbable that he will hold onto his starting position at Portman Road.

Should Ipswich secure a promotion, his exit may become much more probable, as McKenna might try to bolster that section of the squad.

Leif Davis

Left-back Leif Davis is the next player on this list of potential summer exits for Ipswich Town.

Prior to the summer, it has already been claimed that West Ham United and Newcastle United of the Premier League are keeping an eye on the player.

Furthermore, it has been reported that Nottingham Forest has expressed interest in moving for Davis in the summer, joining the previous two teams.

The defender has garnered recognition for his performances both this season and previous, as his size has increased dramatically over this time, positioning him as one of the greatest left-backs in the Football League.

Naturally, Ipswich won’t want to let go of the defender, and they’ll be hoping that getting promoted to the Premier League will help them keep him on board. However, the Tractor Boys are rumored to have placed a £20 million price tag on the player, and Ipswich may be forced to sell a player they spent £1.2 million for in 2022 if any of these teams or other parties match this offer.

Conor Chaplin

Conor Chaplin has been excellent for the Tractor Boys since joining the team in 2021, much like Leif Davis did.

The 27-year-old’s career had not yet begun as well as he would have liked when he signed with Ipswich.

That quickly changed, though, as Chaplin finished his first campaign with goals and assists. The previous season, he performed even better, tallying an amazing 26 goals and dishing out five assists.

Under McKenna’s direction, the striker has truly flourished, and this season’s return to the Championship has seen him maintain his excellent play.

Like Davis, they will be eager for Chaplin to stay with Ipswich past the summer transfer deadline because he has been one of the team’s top players over the past 18 months.

Ipswich is under no obligation to sell the forward because he signed a new deal last summer that runs until 2026. However, considering his recent form, if Ipswich are unable to clinch promotion, a few teams may consider trying to lure Chaplin away from the Tractor Boys.

If this is the case, Ipswich will probably try to fetch a high price for a player who is just enjoying himself on the field.

Marcuss Harness

Winger Marcus Harness is another player whom Ipswich may let go this summer.

The summer of 2022 saw the 28-year-old join the Tractor Boys after making an impression with Portsmouth.

Having worked with Pompey for several seasons, Harness was essential to the team’s objectives and inventiveness.

He was therefore signed by Ipswich, and he performed well there in his debut season, tallying three assists and six goals.

However, the winger wasn’t always a regular, with him starting 21 games in League One, but he was also brought on in a further 19. So, it was a mixed bag when it came to starting and being brought on from the bench.

This season has been very different.

The 28-year-old doesn’t appear to be as high on McKenna’s list of choices, and since his contract expires in 2025, it’s possible that the Islanders will try to trade for the player in the summer if they can fetch a good price.

Although Harness has been a terrific addition to Ipswich, it appears the player has dropped in the hierarchy and may benefit from a move away given the club’s offensive alternatives.
