The reason why Wrexham AFC fans clapped non-stop for 100 seconds ahead of their game with Tranmere Rovers has been revealed.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Wrexham fans conducted a 100 second applause for their oldest supporter, Arthur Massey, ahead of their League Two clash against Tranmere at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham currently sit in third place within the League Two table and could leapfrog Stockport County in second with a win at home today.

THE EXPLANATION

Massey has supported Wrexham since he was a child and even featured on the documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ prior to his birthday last year.

The Red Dragons fan has recently celebrated his 100th birthday, with co-owner Rob McElhenney wishing him all the best on his special day. As well as the Hollywood owner, supporters joined in a 100 second applause for Massey.

WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

The Wrexham co-owner took to his personal X (formerly Twitter) account to wish Arthur well on his special day. The message was received well by the fanbase, with one fan responding by saying: “Love this. You really are the Prince of Wales.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM

Following the clash against Tranmere this afternoon, Phil Parkinson’s side will take on 21st place Grimsby Town in their next fixture. The Red Dragons currently occupy the third automatic promotion place in League Two but will be looking to solidify their chances of ascending into the third tier of English football, with as many wins as possible.
