most recent Nottinghamshire news about Nottingham ForestWatch Tony Bellew, a former world champion boxer and Everton supporter, discuss the Reds’ point deduction live.
Tony Bellew, a former world champion boxer, has taken aim at the Premier League when Nottingham Forest was given a four-point deduction while Everton was given six.
The league docked the Reds points on Monday for violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Forest may file an appeal despite currently being one point from safety and in the bottom three.
Everton also received a point reduction; the Premier League originally docked the Toffees 10 points in November, but that amount was lowered to six on appeal. In addition, the Merseysiders could lose further points if they are found guilty of a second PSR violation.
Forest’s reduced deduction was partially due to their admission of PSR violations at the earliest opportunity and their complete cooperation with the Premier League’s inquiry. Bellew, an Everton supporter, has criticized the disparities in the severity of the penalties meted out.
“It is a complete shame,” Bellew angrily declared on talkSPORT. “The Premier League requires examination. It will ultimately resemble FIFA because of the route they took with regard to corruption and other issues. It’s a complete joke.
“Man City is a team that has been involved in more accusations than I can possible list, yet they have not been punished. Although Forest is a large and excellent team that has performed far worse than us yet has lost less points, I have no issue with them.
“That would mean if they take another two points, that’s eight points when you’ve taken four from Forest who have done more than us, but you’ve taken double. Where’s the justice? It’s a mess and I don’t know the way out of it now.
“Where does it end? Man City are going to end up in the Conference if this comes off. You can’t have 115 charges, you done us for 10 points. A club could go into administration – that means you’ve failed on every level and you only get nine points. They took 10 from us, which is insane. It’s a disgrace.”
