This season, Celtic has approved a number of departures as Brendan Rodgers attempts to gradually pare down his team.

Several players, including David Turnbull, Mikey Johnston, Hyeokkyu Kwon, and Marco Tilio, left the building in January, either permanently or on loan, which gave the Irishman the opportunity to trim down his overly large group at Lennoxtown.

Despite his well-documented off-field problems, Israeli winger Liel Abada completed a £10 million move to Charlotte FC in the months after. Remarkably, business related outgoings has persisted.

Alexandro Bernabei was another person who left Parkhead earlier this month to go to fresh pastures; he signed a loan deal with Brazilian powerhouse Internacional to play for the rest of 2024.

In an interview, Rodgers gave an explanation of his decision to leave Celtic, saying, “I could only be honest and open and say his chances would be limited here.” The club he traveled with, who had an Argentinean coach, offered him the opportunity to play regular football in Brazil.

Naturally, the Argentinian experienced a fairly unpleasant event that caused his Internacional debut to be postponed. It was reported in the media that he missed his connecting aircraft from Amsterdam to South America.

Truth be told, despite the hype surrounding his £3.75 million move from Lanus in 2022, Bernabei never really took off at Celtic. The 23-year-old played in green and white for a total of 28 games, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

Alexandro Bernabei talks about leaving Celtic on loan
Bernabei regrettably fits into the category of transfers that don’t always go as planned, but Celtic supporters will nonetheless wish him luck on his most recent professional endeavor.

The former Argentina Under-23 international has recently shared his aspirations for Internacional and his intention to finish moving back to South America after learning of their interest.

“I really wanted to come back and feel what South American football is all about again,” he said [SC Internacional official YouTube]. I get a lot of emotion and excitement when I wear this International shirt because I know how important this club is, and it motivates me to come in and create an impression.

“I wanted to come here as soon as I heard that International was interested in me.” My football skills include being quick, having good ball crossing technique, and possessing a lot of drive and aggression. However, you’ll see that on the field, where it counts. This season, I’m going to give the cause all.

It appears doubtful that Alexandro Bernabei will rejoin Celtic.
Bernabei should be commended for taking on the challenge of returning to South America. Hopefully, after he settles in at Internacional, he will be able to flourish in a different setting.

Reading between the lines, it may be doubtful that he would return to Celtic in the future to be inserted as a first-team player given that he was let go despite Greg Taylor being the only other natural left-back at Parkhead.

Still, it would be good to see him settle down in Brazil and capitalize on the promising moments he displayed while he was in Glasgow.
