But the Reds remain third in the table, five points adrift of leaders Mansfield Town and one behind second placed Stockport County who have a game in hand, while MK Dons in fourth are on the same tally as Phil Parkinson’s men but have played a match more.

“We got one point out of six from two home games and stayed in the same position,” said the Reds’ captain.

“No-one has pulled away too much other than Mansfield but MK Dons have obviously closed the gap to the same number of points as us.

“There are points we have missed out on and if we had won one of those games, we could have put ourselves in an even stronger position than what we are in and a bit of breathing space behind us.

“But it is still in our own hands and as long as we are picking up points and we are winning, we know that regardless of what the other teams do they are not going to be able to catch us.

“We can control what happens to an extent, we have just got to focus on ourselves and go 100 per cent full throttle between now and the end of the season, starting on Saturday.

“It is almost like eight cup finals now.”
