According to Dharmesh Sheth, David Moyes would wait to sign a new contract with West Ham until after the team’s results in the Premier League and Europa League.
Strong results both at home and in Europe are rumored to have the potential to persuade the manager that he still has a long-term project at the London Stadium.
Moyes will want to go with his reputation intact if he decides to leave in the summer, as it may help him find employment elsewhere.
The Sky Sports writer said in an interview with Give Me Sport on March 20th, “I think he wants to see how this season goes.”
“He may feel that West Ham United is a long-term project for him, wanting to stay and signing that contract, depending on what happens to them, especially in the Europa League and where they finish in the Premier League.
Otherwise, after such an amazing journey, he could believe he has pushed West Ham as far as he can. He could greet everyone with a handshake and go away with his reputation untarnished.
“I believe that is crucial for David Moyes because it will put him in a good position to find another job.”
Will West Ham’s David Moyes depart this summer?
Although there have been many discussions and rumors regarding Moyes’ future following a mixed season at the London Stadium—many supporters have called for his dismissal, especially amid a bad stretch of play around the new year—the final say in the matter remains with him.
Given that Moyes appears to be the only one making the decision, he will have time to consider his options before deciding, and given the pressures of this season, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him depart the team at the conclusion of his current contract.
But considering his ability to compete in Europe, which he demonstrated when at West Ham, more success in the Europa League might be what keeps him committed to the current endeavor.
But if he does decide to leave, he will undoubtedly do so with his reputation untarnished, having won multiple league titles and European trophies that have improved the public’s perception of the manager.
