This Saturday, when the Red Dragons visit Blundell Park to play Grimsby Town, Phil Parkinson hopes to get his team back to winning ways.
This is an opportunity to improve on the team’s last road win over Morecambe, as Parkinson’s team showed ruthlessness at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
With nine vital games remaining in the season, they are still very much in the running for promotion despite having lost their last two games.
The team has had a good week at the training facility, and the Wrexham manager thinks the players are enjoying the opportunity to begin a fresh campaign.
“The boys have trained really well, and it’s been a good week,” he remarked.
We benefited from the Reserves’ Tuesday game as Jack Marriott scored a hat-trick, Dalbs scored two excellent goals, and there were many other strong performances.
“Even though it was against a young team, we were concerned about our boys playing, and that was beneficial for us.”
In their most recent Central League match, played in midweek, the Red Dragons Reserves took on Salford City. Dave Jones selected an experienced lineup that included Tom O’Connor, who played for an hour.
Thanks to the medical staff’s assistance, George Evans has intensified his return to training, and Ryan Barnett underwent a scan in response to the injury he suffered against Tranmere Rovers.
The good news about O’Connor and Evans comes at a crucial time in the season, and Parkinson expressed his satisfaction with their development.
“George is in a decent place as far as the end of his rehab on the grass is concerned,” he stated. This week he has put in a lot of physical effort, and today was presumably his last day working for the medical department. He has put forth a great deal of effort, and so have they.
Tommy keeps on paving his way back. On Tuesday, he played for sixty minutes, which was beneficial to his development.
“Unfortunately, James Jones’ progress has not been as good. It will take a little longer because there are still a few things we need to work out with him.
“We received fantastic news regarding Ryan Barnett. Initially, we believed he might have a broken foot, but after sending him for a scan, the results were clear.
“We did fear the worst when we saw the state of it after the game, but he still has a lot of bruises around it.”
After their visit to the STōK Cae Ras earlier in the season, the Mariners, who are six points outside of relegation and currently occupy 20th position, have a new management team.
Ollie Palmer, Will Boyle, and Elliot Lee scored goals as the Red Dragons easily defeated Paul Hurst’s team 3-0.
Dave Artell, a former Wrexham defender, is now in charge and has led the Mariners to a five-game winning streak.
Parkinson is excited to take on what should be an amazing environment ahead of tomorrow’s game.
He stated: “Dave took over quite some time ago. They were a true possession-based club at first, playing out of the back, but the results weren’t in their favor.
“They have changed, and the data will support that because they’ve gone risk-free at the back and been direct, which resulted in a crushing defeat against Doncaster.
They appear to have fought their way out of the relegation struggle by playing as any other club would.
“We know it’s going to be a terrific occasion, which we will be ready for and we’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great stadium and atmosphere.”
Aside from this weekend’s game, the National League’s results have meant that our record-breaking, historic point total is still in place.
Chesterfield’s victory over Boreham Wood tomorrow might see them crowned champions, but they fall short of Parkinson’s team’s 111 points from the previous campaign.
Notts County put up a fierce fight over the campaign, but an outstanding record finished the season on a high note.
Parkinson grinned at the record remaining unbroken, but he also complimented the Spireites on their fantastic season.
“I’m very pleased, I watched the game in midweek after paying for it,” he exclaimed. Naturally, this is the last season and we aren’t basking in the glory of it, but we set a remarkable record and we didn’t want it to be surpassed, particularly in the first.
Chesterfield won that game mathematically, even if they will rise as Champions and surely can’t surpass our 111-point record.
“That pleased me and the staff, just as it did the supporters.”
