Following Nottingham Forest’s four-point deduction, former Everton manager Keith Wyness hinted that the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, would step down.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, said the Greek has a “fiery temperament” in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
On Monday, March 18, Nottingham Forest was docked four points for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) of the Premier League.
The Midlands club currently has nine games remaining and is in the relegation zone after exceeding their permitted losses threshold of £61 million by £34.5 million.
In response to the penalty, Forest issued a vehement statement in which they expressed their “extreme dismay” at the Premier League’s handling of their case, claiming that it had “harmed trust and confidence” in league officials.
“I’ve never met Marinakis, but from the outside, he does appear to have a very fiery temperament,” Wyness said on the Football Insider podcast Insider Track.
“I believe he could easily toss his toys from the stroller, decide it’s enough, and turn to leave.
“Marinakis is a fiery guy; in the days ahead, we’ll see where this story goes.”
In May 2017, media tycoon and shipowner Marinakis acquired a majority stake in Nottingham Forest.
In addition, he owns Rio Ave, a Portuguese band, and Olympiacos, a Greek team.
