Sam Greenwood, a Leeds United loanee, wrote Elland Road star Archie Gray a four-word note on social media.
It follows the latter’s goal on his England Under-21s debut in Friday’s 5-1 victory against Azerbaijan (March 22).
In the Euro 2025 qualifying match, the 18-year-old scored one goal off the bench, joining two other goals from Harvey Elliott, one each from Noni Madueke and Jaden Philogene.
When Middlesbrough player Greenwood saw film of the goal posted on Friday by the official England Instagram account, he commented, “Go on my mate.”
Archie Gray, a standout for Leeds United, keeps advancing quickly
This season, Gray has been absolutely amazing for Leeds, and manager Daniel Farke has been heavily depending on the 18-year-old.
The Elland Road supporters have been huge admirers of his performances, which have seen him excel at both central midfield and right back.
During the most recent international break, Farke may have thought that his young player would receive a much-needed break, but the England Under-21 team had other plans.
Perhaps the one bright spot for Farke was that the teenager didn’t start against Azerbaijan; instead, he came off the bench.
However, the young player will undoubtedly play again in the upcoming match, which takes place on Tuesday, March 26, when the Young Lions play Luxembourg Under-21s.
Even if it is uncommon in this day and age, Farke will want all of his international players back as quickly as possible and, more crucially, injury-free.
The Elland Road team has an intense Championship campaign ahead of them, and this season’s promotion to the Premier League is very much in the cards.
