Leicester City is trying everything to avoid losing six points this season, therefore Leeds United has every right to be upset with the Foxes.

Leicester City was punished by the Premier League on Thursday (via BBC Sport, March 21) for violating the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

They responded on Friday, March 22, via their official website, announcing that they will be launching “urgent legal proceedings” against the EFL and Premier League.

The Club is dedicated to making sure that any allegations against it are fairly and appropriately decided, in compliance with the relevant regulations, by the appropriate bodies, and at the appropriate time, according to one section of the statement.

The Whites and other competitors for the Championship will be especially irritated by that last message, sent “at the right time.”

The Premier League was eager to seek an accelerated hearing to make sure that Leicester’s case was heard this season, but the Foxes’ legal appeal prevents this from happening, according to the Daily Mail (March 23).

When they deem it necessary, the Premier League can push for accelerated procedures, and in this instance, they were eager to do so in order to preserve the integrity of the Championship’s promotion competition.

Leicester, though, seems to have a different perspective.

The Daily Mail was informed by sources that Leicester’s infraction is a “serious” one that will result in a six-point deduction. Based on this information, it appears that the team has virtually little chance of winning its appeal.

Leeds’ assertions that this is just a stalling strategy to guarantee their automatic promotion back to England’s top flight are therefore difficult to refute.

With one game remaining, Leicester is now one point ahead of third-place Ipswich Town in the Championship, level on points with Leeds.

After a dismal run of play that has seen them win just one of their last five games, Enzo Maresca’s team, which looked to be having an easy time capturing the Championship title, is now in a tough spot.

Daniel Farke’s team, meanwhile, is dominating the league and has been since a 1-0 loss to West Brom at The Hawthorns on December 29, 2023. They have been on an amazing run of play.

The Championship climax appears to be among the most thrilling in recent memory, and the Whites will be furious that all of their efforts could go in vain due to alleged financial violations.

The next meeting between the two teams could prove to be intense if the Foxes surpass Leeds and receive a six-point deduction in the Premier League the following season.
