According to Derek Ferguson, John Lundstram should consider staying at Rangers as the greatest option if he wants to have the best chance of winning trophies.
The former Ibrox midfielder acknowledges that, as it might be his final major decision, the 30-year-old will need to weigh the financial implications of remaining in Glasgow or even going back to England.
Ferguson, meanwhile, is still reasonably optimistic that Rangers can hold onto the first-team regular because he doesn’t think there will be an escape path to the Premier League south of the border.
The present contract for Lundstram expires at the end of the current campaign, and Philippe Clement has mentioned that negotiations about an extension are ongoing. However, he has also referred to it as a “financial thing” between the player and the club [Daily Record, 20 January].
He remarked exclusively to Ibrox News, “Is he truly interested in going back to England? I don’t think too many Premier League teams would be vying for his signature if he tried his luck in the English Championship.
“I’m simply attempting to approach things sensibly. Is it a Championship team? If he wants to win, I think he should stay with the Rangers.
Nevertheless, we are unaware of his circumstances. Money has to make a decision because he is approaching his 30s.
Given how much his fans adore him right now, I believe we could win him over. However, to return to the financial aspect, he has to earn a little money before his profession ends.

Since Lundstram has stated that he would “love” to continue at Ibrox [STV, January 3], the money that the team is offering logically has to be the only thing keeping him from pledging to stay for a fourth season.
Given his significance in Clement’s Rangers setup, it would seem like a wise investment unless he has made some absurd demands.
