Nottingham Forest has appealed a four-point deduction for breaking the Premier League’s rules on profit and sustainability.

The fine was applied earlier this month after an unbiased panel found that Forest had spent £34.5 million more than its allotted £61 million during a three-year period.

Because of Forest’s “early plea” and “cooperation,” the six-point deduction—three for the breach itself and an additional three for its size—was lowered.

The club did, however, have seven days from the sanction confirmation to file an appeal, which it has now done.

Nottingham Forest said in a statement that it has filed an appeal against the four-point penalty the Commission issued for the Club’s violation of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).”

“At this time, the club will not be issuing any additional statements.”

Although that date is five days after the season’s last day, it is thought that the Premier League views May 24 as the completion date for any appeals procedure.

Forest emphasized that the charges must be settled in full before the campaign ends in response to the four-point sanction.

The club declared that they were “extremely disappointed” by the deduction and that “all aspirant clubs should be concerned” about the commission’s ruling. As for newly promoted teams without parachute payments, Forest contended that “the Premier League gave no consideration at all to the unique circumstances” of the scenario, and that this may make it “extremely difficult, if not impossible,” for them to compete.

With nine games remaining in the Premier League season, Forest is now below Luton and in the relegation zone as a result of the deduction.

The team led by Nuno Espirito Santo is four points behind Everton, who have a game in hand, and one point behind the Hatters in 17th place. Currently sitting five points ahead of the bottom three in the table, Brentford is ranked 15th.

Since making their way back to the Premier League, the team has signed almost 40 players, 22 of whom arrived in the summer of 2022 after they were assured of a spot in the top division.
