Following Sven Botman’s injury, Newcastle United will be looking to add a new center-back during the summer transfer window.

Botman could be out for up to nine months, which means he won’t be playing much next season. In addition, he would need time to recover from a protracted injury layoff and return to his previous level.

Purchasing new defenders during the summer transfer window makes sense for the Magpies. Following a dismal 2023–24 season, the Magpies may be preparing for a reconstruction project, although adhering to FFP regulations will be the primary obstacle.

Eddie Howe might have to let go of a few of his best players come summertime in order to raise the cash required to bring in new players. It appears that Newcastle is prepared to invest its funds in young players who could go on to win the global championship.

De Telegraaf reports that Newcastle is interested in recruiting teenage defender Dean Huijsen from Juventus, who is presently on loan at Roma.

Newcastle United main candidate to sign Dean Huijsen

One of the “main candidates” to sign the 18-year-old defender is starting to emerge as the Magpies. Borussia Dortmund, a formidable German team, is also eager to sign him.

He is viewed as Mats Hummels’s possible replacement, but Newcastle wants him to take Botman’s place in case of injury. Huijsen is under contract with Juventus until 2028, but if he doesn’t get enough playing time, he may decide to leave the team.

For the remainder of the season, the defender joined AS Roma on loan, and he has made a big impression. According to certain reports, Juventus may sell Huijsen in exchange for Teun Koopmeiners.

It will be fascinating to see if the Magpies would be willing to pay that amount for his signature, as he would likely cost approximately £25 million. Although Huijsen lacks experience, he appears to be a tremendous young prospect.
