This Sunday, Brighton will play their Premier League comeback match against title-chasing Liverpool. This is Albion’s first Premier League match since their thrilling 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on March 10 at the Amex Stadium.
With 10 games remaining in the season, the Seagulls have 42 points from 28 games, good for eighth place in the league standings. Roberto De Zerbi, who has been highly linked to a summer transfer to Liverpool, is eager to end the season on a high note and return to play in Europe. The Seagulls will evaluate the health of players returning from their international break this week in addition to their many injury concerns.
This is Albion’s expected starting lineup for this Sunday’s 2 p.m. match against Liverpool at Anfield.
1. Jason Steele – GK
The goalkeeper rotation policy could continue with Steele – who unlike Verbruggen – was not on international duty this week
2. Tariq Lamptey – RB
The flying full back is back to fitness and offers pace down the flank. Needs a strong finish to the season after recent injuries
3. Jan Paul van Hecke – CB
The young defender has been one of Albion’s best players this term
4. Lewis Dunk – CB
The Albion skipper will be keen to get back on the pitch after his tough evening on Tuesday with England
5. Lewis Dunk – CB
The Albion skipper will be keen to get back on the pitch after his tough evening on Tuesday with England
6. Igor Julio – LB
The Brazilian could start this one as Estupinan is returning from international duty in America with Ecuador
7. Billy Gilmour – CM
The Scotland international was suspended last time out in the PL and will be keen to have a strong finish and help Albion’s push for Europe
8. Pascal Gross – CM
The German midfielder always seems to save his best for Liverpool
9. Adam Lallana – M
Showed his class in the first half against Roma and could start this one – if fit
10. Simon Adingra – LW
With March and Mitoma missing – the Ivorian winger has been vital for Albion this term
11. Joao Pedro – A
The 19-goal Brazil striker is expected to return from a thigh injury at Liverpool – fingers firmly crossed
12. Danny Welbeck – A
I expect Welbeck to get the nod ahead of Evan Ferguson for this one. The former United man links well with Pedro too
