According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is considering a summer transfer for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
The Belgian international is highly valued by the Toffees, and the asking price has increased dramatically over the last several months, according to a March 28 report from the Spanish news source.
The Merseyside team values him at £40 million, but if they are demoted, the five-time Champions League winners may be able to lower their asking price.
Is Everton losing the transfer war to keep Onana?
Even if Everton is struggling to stay afloat and probably won’t want to part with a valuable player, Onana’s attraction to Barcelona poses a serious threat to the Merseyside team.
The Belgian’s outstanding achievements in the Premier League and for the Belgian national team have made him a viable answer to their long-term midfield problems.
Onana may find it difficult to turn off Barcelona’s advances despite the Toffees’ great regard for him, particularly in light of his evident affection for the Catalan team and La Masia as demonstrated by his social media activity.
With his affinity for Barcelona’s style of football and the possibility of joining a prominent club, it’s becoming more likely that Onana will be pulled away from Goodison Park this summer.
Since he is possibly the club’s most important asset, hopefully they will receive a substantial compensation if he does wind up departing.
In other Everton news, the team has already contacted two players about joining them during the summer transfer window.
