This summer, the Rangers would accept a “big money” offer for James Tavernier from Saudi Arabia.

Former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider, praised the captain’s impact but stated that he and the team would consider leaving if the right offer came in.

Football Insider said on March 20 that if Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq or other PiF-owned clubs make a good offer for Tavernier, 32, Philippe Clement’s team may not be able to turn it down.

According to recent reports, Saudi clubs will keep an eye on Tavernier’s circumstances during the summer.

During Gerrard’s tenure at the team, the Englishman was named Rangers captain. This season, in all competitions, he has scored an incredible 21 goals and given 10 assists from right-back.

Rangers would approve the “massive” sale of James Tavernier to Saudi Arabia.
After his “brilliant” nine-year tenure at Rangers, Tavernier would be willing to spend a few seasons in the Middle East, according to McAvennie, who believed that the Glasgow giants would accept a hefty offer.

“They would have to take a lot of money, of course,” he said to Football Insider.

James has been tremendous for them, giving the Rangers everything he has and shattering every record.

“His goals and assists for a full-back are absolutely huge.

“If I was their centre-forward and my full-back kept being the top goalscorer, I would not be happy!

“But he’s been brilliant.

“No matter what people say about him, he’s up a leg on the Celtic defence.

“He’s great going forward and he’s probably the best defender in the league.

“He scores a lot of goals from open play and comes into the box late by sneaking into the back post.

“I think he would take a move to Saudi though, I do.

“He’s won loads at Rangers – the league and the cup.

“If Saudi come in and Rangers get that kind of money, I think James might be the kind of guy to go there for a few years and come back.

“He’s an honest enough guy that he’ll go there and work and do alright.”
