The Everton Fans’ Forum has taken issue with Howard Webb’s reaction to queries regarding Premier League officiating standards.
After many contentious rulings went against Everton, including a handball against Amadou Onana during the loss to Manchester City, the fan panel wrote to PGMOL head Webb.
On Thursday, March 28, Webb replied to that letter, but in doing so, he seemed to ignore a number of points and provide a general response.
on X [29 March], the Everton Fans’ Forum posted: We got a response to our letter and meeting with Howard Webb, the head of @FA_PGMOL, yesterday.
“We have requested that a further adequate response be supplied by 5 p.m. on December 4, 2024, since we are disappointed in the lack of answers provided. Please find the PGMOL response below.
“We’re publishing the background document the Forum used for the meeting that took place on January 30, 2024, along with the response from Mr. Webb, as well as the specific questions we raised that we believe have not been addressed.”
Everton suffers as a result of poor officiating calls
Although Webb should be commended for replying to the letter, it appears that he did not fully grasp the original message.
Recall that Everton has lost a disproportionate amount of important decisions, especially in the early part of the season.
Take the Dominic Calvert-Lewin sending-off against Crystal Palace, which was eventually overturned and shouldn’t have happened.
In addition, Dejan Kulusevski’s challenge on Onana, which was called a handball against the midfield player against Man City, should have resulted in a penalty.
Webb’s answer, which is available in its whole here, mostly consists of shielding the referees rather than providing a more thorough explanation of the rulings.
Despite the speculation that Everton would be relegated after receiving a second point punishment, some of these questionable calls might end up being just as important.
Because of this, people who commit errors need to be held responsible. Hopefully, Webb can respond more effectively the next time.
