Paul Robinson gave his forecast regarding Leeds United’s pursuit of Willy Gnonto in the summer, and he shared it with MOT Leeds News.
This season, the Whites have greatly benefited from their offensive prowess, as numerous players have stepped up to make an impact in the closing third.
This season, Crysencio Summerville has excelled, regularly contributing both with goals and assists to propel his team into the automatic promotion mix.
In addition to Georginio Rutter, Joel Piroe, and Patrick Bamford, Dan James has also excelled on the wing.
Willy Gnonto, on the other hand, has performed admirably lately.
Not only did he struggle during the summer window due to the commotion surrounding him, but he also struggled early in the season due to injuries and insufficient playing time.
However, 2024 has been a new beginning for the Italian, as the 20-year-old has scored and assisted a lot of goals so far this year.
Paul Robinson’s transfer prediction on Leeds United’s Willy Gnonto
Although Robinson anticipates bids for Gnonto, he also feels Leeds could be able to hold onto him and other important players should they be promoted at the end of the current campaign.
He stated to MOT Leeds News, “I’m sure there will be bids for him because he’s having a great season and has returned to his previous level of play.”
“He was fantastic when he joined the team in the Premier League, and I believe Leeds’ issue is that they have some extremely great players, such as Gnonto, Summerville, James, and Piroe.
“You look at the team’s goal distribution this season. While Patrick Bamford has occasionally been the team’s top scorer, the team’s goals have come from a variety of players.
“And Gnonto is contributing; he’s had eight games so far this season. His effort and goal against Millwall were outstanding; Leeds’ issue is that, should the worst occur and they manage to stay in the Championship, they will have to let rid of players and will likely receive bids for them.
“But clearly, if they advance in the Premier League, they’ll be able to retain the team, and I believe the manager should get a lot of credit for how he handled the Gnonto situation.”
“At the start of the season, almost refusing to play, wanting to leave, and the man-management there, the turnaround the manager’s had to do, the relationship with the player to get those kind of performances out of him, the manager deserves a lot of credit for the way Willy Gnonto’s playing.”
Leeds United’s summer stance on Willy Gnonto may depend on key condition
Leeds and teams like Leicester City and Ipswich Town are presently battling it out for a spot in the top two.
Leeds will undoubtedly be eager to sign him to a new contract if they are successful in securing promotion, either automatically or through the play-offs.
Furthermore, the possibility that the Whites would be in the top division might convince the Italian to sign a contract on new terms.
However, you have to think that Leeds could be more receptive to a deal if they remain low, particularly if he draws a lot of attention.
They could get a good price for Gnonto, and if they stayed in the second tier, the commotion around his future would be uninteresting.
