By contesting their four-point deduction, Nottingham Forest might be “writing their own death sentence.”
Senior journalist Pete O’Rourke stated on the most recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that it would be “foolish” for Forest to appeal the decision unless they have guarantees that they won’t be punished further.
Due to a violation of the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules throughout the three years ending in 2023–2024, Forest was docked four points this month.
They were assessed an initial six-point punishment, which was later lowered to two because of the club’s cooperation with the investigation, after their permissible losses were exceeded by £34.5 million.
Nottingham Forest’s request for a points reduction is “foolish” and might not succeed.
But Forest has appealed the ruling, the club announced in a statement on Monday, March 25.
Five days after the 2023–24 season ends, on May 24, the appeal verdict will be rendered.
By successfully appealing their original 10-point deduction from earlier in the season, Everton was only fined six points.
According to Football Insider, there is a “disaster” scenario in which Forest’s appeal could lead to a greater deduction of points than their original decision.
“It would be very foolish of Forest to go ahead with this appeal if they haven’t had some insight that they weren’t going to get a further punishment,” O’Rourke stated in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
“They are writing their own death sentence if they don’t.”
