According to Chris Jack, Rangers and Celtic are facing financial difficulties as a result of the allocation of away fans for Old Firm derbies.

On March 29, the SPFL declared that beginning with the upcoming season, there will be away fans for both Parkhead and Ibrox derby games.

This implies that there won’t be any away fans for the final two matches of the 2023–2024 season.

On March 29, he stated to Rangers Review that it would have been preferable for everyone involved if the new deal had gone into effect this season as opposed to next.

“Just picture the riot of color and noise that would have greeted the players during two matches that would help decide who will win the Premiership title race: Ibrox and Parkhead. Rather, those two games will only be played in front of home fans. We’ll have to wait and see if that turns out to be significant.

That being said, this method isn’t ideal. But it was never going to be. This has turned into a financial problem rather than just a football one.

“It became nearly impossible to imagine a scenario that would result in 8,000-strong away supporters on derby day as soon as both clubs sold season tickets in the areas where their rivals once sat twice a season.”

Fantastic news for Celtic and Rangers
The two Glasgow clubs and Scottish football in general have made great progress with the resolution of the Old Firm ticket allocation dispute.

Both sides have shown a readiness to make concessions and put the needs of their fans first by committing to reserve about 5% of their stadium for away fans during SPFL matches between the two clubs beginning in the 2024–2025 season.

The Old Firm brand, which greatly depends on the fervor and rivalry among followers, is strengthened by this choice in addition to improving the ambiance and intensity of the games.

Though not flawless, this resolution recognizes the significance of spectator involvement in molding the spirit of the Old Firm matches and establishes a favorable standard for subsequent cooperation between the teams and league authorities.

There’s always excitement when these two titans of Scottish football face off, but the atmosphere will be very different the next season.

In other Rangers news, the European league’s biggest clubs have begun their summer transfer window bidding for a first-team player of the Gers, providing an update on the player’s choice.
