Sam Lammers has disclosed the reason behind his failure at Rangers: he was never utilized in his most effective striking position.

As Utrecht looks to secure a European spot, the Dutch forward is having a great loan stint there. In ten league games, he has scored three goals.

He did not reach the pinnacles at Ibrox, though, and has already surpassed his total in Scotland, when he made just 17 league appearances and scored just two goals, seven of which came from the bench.

And after admitting he left Rangers in such a hurry that his possessions are still in Glasgow, he believes he would have scored more goals if he had been used as a striker.

“I played more at No. 10 at Rangers,” he remarked. In reality, I didn’t participate in a single striker game there.

“I unexpectedly found myself on the bench at Rangers, and I never got back on.”

“And all of a sudden, you’re told you can go on loan.

“So you’ll already know plenty by then.

“I still have almost everything in Scotland. When the loan deal closed, I was on vacation in the Netherlands.

“I never returned after that. But all I really need are some football boots and some clothes.

“I never intended to move back to the Netherlands, but it’s been enjoyable. I find it easier to visit the family.”

Additionally, the 26-year-old has made it clear that he hopes to make the loan move permanent.

We’ve only lost once since I’ve been here, he stated.

“Even if the team and I were having success prior to my goals, as a striker you get a slight sense of relief when those goals are scored.

I really can’t comment with certainty on my future because no decisions have been made as of yet. My current objective is to get Utrecht to play football in Europe; after that, I’ll consider other options.
