Now that several of their key players are beginning to return from injuries, Celtic appears to be settling into a rhythm in the Scottish Premiership.
The Celtic defense now has a steely presence thanks to Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Reo Hatate’s outstanding performance against Livingston appeared to ignite the inventiveness that had been sorely lacking since his injury.
With Adam Idah as his capable backup, Kyogo Furuhashi has also returned to his best form and may provide something fresh for the Celtic assault.
However, Chris Sutton wasn’t thinking about any of those players. When the former Celtic great declared that he wouldn’t get “carried away” by new Bhoy Niclos Kuhn, he was analyzing the threat that Celtic posed to Livingston.
According to Sutton, Kuhn will be “judged” at Ibrox.
Although Kuhn has made nine appearances for Celtic since joining the team in January and has contributed two goals and two assists, Sutton has informed the winger that although he is performing well, his abilities will eventually be assessed on Sunday.
In the race for the championship, Sutton feels that Kuhn must impress Brendan Rodgers in the Glasgow Derby against Rangers.
Sutton stated to Sky Sports, “I believe this is a challenging one for him.” He began by discussing his struggles. This season, he has joined a team where things haven’t quite clicked.
“A group that hadn’t consistently played well. Yang was nominated in ahead of him after he had early opportunity.
“I’m not getting ahead of myself because he performed admirably both against Livingston and St Johnstone.
Of course, there will be other assessments, including one the following week where he will be evaluated.
“However, there are circumstances where you arrive in Glasgow, sign with Celtic or Rangers, and have little opportunity to settle in.
However, it appears from listening to him that he has gained some confidence. Last week, he scored against St Johnstone.
“I believe it’s crucial that he avoids becoming cliched. Recall that we discussed the Motherwell game; we know he likes to get on his left foot and constantly comes in, but I believe he needs to force defenses to think and attack the outside.
The German winger, 24, has a medical condition that made it difficult for him to begin his Celtic career.
Kuhn, though, has put up a couple of strong displays for Celtic in the victories over Livingston and St Johnstone now that it appears to be gone.
Kuhn appears to be supplying the inventiveness on the wings while Luis Palma is sidelined due to injury, but Sutton is right—he needs to deliver next week at Ibrox because three points is all that will matter as this championship battle comes to an end.
