Yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Brighton was primarily due to Alexis Mac Allister’s genius.
Liverpool’s triumph on Sunday was tremendously significant, and it hadn’t always seemed likely. After falling behind the Seagulls by a goal in less than two minutes, it appeared as though an odd curse might persist.
Strangely, in the Reds’ previous four meetings with Brighton, they had not triumphed. Additionally, in the previous three encounters between the clubs at Anfield, they had failed to win three points.
There were also hints that Liverpool will struggle once more, including the possibility that Roberto De Zerbi would try out for the role of Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
Luckily, Mac Allister was not going to allow it to occur. The 25-year-old was Liverpool’s main player throughout the entire day, eventually putting up Mohamed Salah for the game-winning goal with a pass that BBC Sport analyst Garth Crooks called “world class.”
Brighton writes to Mac Allister, Alexis
For Mac Allister, it must have been a day of mixed emotions. Naturally, he is now a member of Liverpool, and Klopp claims that he “loves” playing for his new team.
However, he did spend four and a half years as a player for Brighton. They are obviously a team that Mac Allister is very attached to, as they were the ones who brought him to the Premier League and laid the groundwork for him to win the World Cup.
It’s also encouraging to see that the player and the club treat one other with respect. After the game, De Zerbi gave a heartfelt speech about his previous No. 10, and Brighton’s official X account also showed the Argentine some love.
The Seagulls’ account commented, “Always good to see you,” tagging Mac Allister.
A sophisticated move directed at a player who, that day, essentially controlled the show against them. Bravo to all those who were a part of it.
Additional commendation for Mac Allister
There’s no denying that Mac Allister has been among Liverpool’s best three or four players the whole season.
The former Seagull has truly emerged lately after a somewhat sluggish beginning in which he was frequently asked to play out of position.
Mac Allister has contributed nine goals for Liverpool in his last ten outings. Over the most recent international break, he scored for Argentina as well.
While he was at Brighton, it was evident that he would make a great player. However, since moving to Merseyside from the South Coast, Macca has proven to be a very exceptional player. He’s just getting started, which is great.
